It’s been over year now since we purchased The Sled. Yesterday marked 12 months since we made the formal announcement of our purchase and it also coincided with our very first visitors to our van. Seems odd to have taken so long to have visitors but that’s just how it worked out.

One of the things we try to do is visit The Sled during the off-peak times so it’s a bit quieter and there are fewer people around. This time of year is the start of the holiday season in the area with people slowly starting to populate the foreshore camping sites for which the area is famous. There’s hardly anyone in the park. It’s fantastic! Peace and quiet with easy access to the pool and no disruptions.

Except today, of course.

It’s just prior to peak season. Soon the families will flock to the park and kids will stream past The Sled on their way to the swimming pool and the trampolines. They’re not here yet, though, so it’s the perfect time for the maintenance crew to trim back all of the trees and bushes throughout the park and catch up on all of the other things that need to be done before the park fills up for summer. They started with the trees next to The Sled around 8am this morning. We were still in bed enjoying the serenity of our peaceful caravan when the chainsaws and hedge trimmers were engaged and they ripped through the trees next to our annex.

The serenity was lost for an hour whilst they trimmed the trees in the immediate area. There are a lot of trees. The noise lessened as they made their way around the park and I was able to return to bed and catch up on my interrupted sleep. Then they came back. Now they had a mulcher and were cleaning up their handiwork from earlier. I know it will end soon but the smashing of the serenity is not a great way to start the morning.
